James Maxwell Berry, age 71 years, of Emory, Texas, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2016 at the Eastern Texas Medical Center in Tyler, Texas.Jim was born May 20, 1945 in Springfield, Mo. the son of T. Maxwell and Virginia Lee Williams Berry. A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, Jim was a 1963 graduate of Jefferson City High School.Jim moved to Marshfield, Mo. in the mid-seventies, where he worked as an architect and engineer in Springfield, Mo. He achieved his boyhood dream of being a rancher when he bought his first farm in 1979. In 1999, Jim moved to Sulphur Springs, Texas and continued fulfilling his passion in ranch work. He accepted a career opportunity with Hanna Construction, and worked with the company until his retirement in 2008.Jim was a master of the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, horseback riding and even trained cutting horses for many years of his life. Jim was happiest in the wide open country air. He enjoyed hunting a variety of wild game animals. Survivors include: three daughters, Janet Farris (Jeff Atkins), Elizabeth Schwartz (Jeff) and Senica Berry (Jill French); three siblings, Lynn Stout (Tom), Mike Berry and Donna Berry (Shane Mitchell); four grandchildren, Kyra Rackers (Larry), Zachary Webster, Dylan Webster and Jamie Webster; one great grandchild, Cam Rackers; and two nephews, Chris Stout (Wanda) and Scott Stout.He was preceded in death by his parents and one younger brother, Thomas Berry.A private family service will be conducted at the Masonic Cemetery in Dadeville, Mo. at a later date.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to a charity of the donor’s choice. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Freeman Mortuary.
